Bella Ciao Travels is developing a dedicated Heritage & Roots travel program designed for Italian-Australians reconnecting with their family origins across Italy, in collaboration with local municipalities, archivists, and regional specialists. A heritage journey is different from any other kind of travel — it is personal archaeology. It ends at the street, the house, the church where a name in the margin of a ledger becomes something you can touch. These journeys do not follow a set path. They follow yours.
This program is currently being refined and offered on a limited, case-by-case basis to ensure depth, accuracy, and meaningful outcomes. Enquire to discuss your family story.

Sample Itinerary
A flavour of what awaits
Every itinerary is bespoke. This sample illustrates the rhythm and quality of what we design.
Day 1
Arrive at the relevant regional airport. Transfer to accommodation in or near the ancestral region.
Briefing session with your heritage guide — review of pre-departure research, plan for the week.
Dinner at a locally-loved restaurant. Your guide translates the menu and the conversation.
Day 2
Visit to the municipal archive. Review birth, marriage, and death records with the archivista.
Walk through the ancestral village with your guide. Identify the original family address.
Drinks at the local bar. Your guide makes introductions to long-term residents who may have known the family.
Day 3
Church visit with the local priest — access to baptismal registers, often held separately from civil records.
Possible meeting with distant relatives or community members who share the surname.
A meal hosted by a local contact. The kind of evening that becomes the story you tell for years.
Day 4
Regional cemetery walk — headstones often reveal details that no digital archive holds.
Local museum or cultural centre visit with focus on emigration history from the region.
Private dinner with your guide to debrief the journey. Documents and findings reviewed.
Day 5
Free morning — revisit favourite places, photograph details, sit in the piazza.
Departure transfer with your framed documents and a folder of the week's discoveries.
Transfer to onward destination or airport.
